Its an old question but why are there so few blokes who go to church? ... or is it the type of church I am a member of (C of E). Is there anything we can do?

| I find this an interesting topic - the church I attend has a good number of guys - most of whom I would describe as fairly normal - whatever tht is. However i do wonder whether most of the guys are actually comfortable with/in church? They seem to be and we certainly have good fellowship between each other outside Sundays. I have tried to figure out what our church has that men seem comfortable but cannot put my finger on anythin specific. My church comes from a traditional Christian Brethren background - maybe 30 years ago they were very traditional in their services etc - over that period they have changed by oening themselves up in terms of music/style of leading but we still have a communion service which discourages women from participating in sharing scripture/prayer. However we have a really vibrant open family style service, lots of opportunities for young people to engage in different ways. We have recently planted a church with about 30members and their families and would normally have about 170 people at a family service (with perhaps 120 of these members). Our present pastor and his wife worked for the Lord in France for 18years as church planters/evangelists and have a very enabling style of leadership. Not sure there is a magic solution to this 'problem' but do believe that (even in my own situation) we need to talk about things openly and not avoid subjects which we find difficult/embarassing (porn, money, gambling) or simply tell guys that they shouldn't do these things. |

Chruch teaches us to humble ourselves..
Men, including myself, find this hard to do as we are suppose to be this big man who is not scared of anything and protector of all.
It is a challenging thing.. ego..
Fear of what people will think if they do go..
just a thought from a new Christian who is still learning to toddle..
i am a "practising" Christian |
