You can keep your computer animated sequences, at the end of the day there is no substitute for good old fashioned frame shot animation.

As clever as The Incredibles and other such movies are the new feature length movie involving our favourite working class heroes Wallace and Gromit has a very special quality all of its own. Ardman have once again succeeded in creating a masterpiece of such deft quality that the whole thing really is a pleasure to watch.

Nick Park’s team have managed to retain all the traditional production values of the original 30 minute series that bought to life their fantastic clay creations. Right from the barmy village vicar through to the speechless Gromit everything is perfectly in place.

No stone was left unturned when it came to extracting as many rabbit and vegetable jokes as possible from the plot. In fact the entertainment comes so thick and fast you really need to be on your toes to take in all the subtle nuances of this picture. Right from the title sequence through to the final credits the film rattles along at a gag a second and it is the unwritten ones that are some of the funniest. Look out for some of Lady Tottingham’s outfits and some of the book titles on the shelves as Wallace tries to locate a hidden stash of cheese.

Superbly crafted the film centres around Wallace & Gromit’s humane pest control business Anti-Pesto and the build up to the annual giant vegetable show at Tottingham Hall.

Called in by Lady Tottingham to clear up a rabbit problem, Wallace and the landed lady instantly strike up a rapport. This is much to the disgust of belligerent bunny blaster Victor Quartermaine Wallace’s arch rival for the heart of Lady Tottingham who believes that the bullet is the only solution to the problem.

As always things have to go terribly wrong for our sweetly innocent hero before they can improve and who better than his super sleuthing side kick Gromit who once again has to come to the rescue of the hapless Wallace.

Curiously a giant rabbit begins to terrorise the locals, chomping its way through all the contestants’ prize greens. Anti-Pesto are called to the rescue, but this time the big bunny is more than a match for Wallace’s invention - the ultimate bunny vacuum which plucks rabbits from their burrows with ease. Indeed smarter methods are required to capture this particularly large critter.

The film is endearingly and quaintly British in its style and form. From Anti-Pesto’s pale blue Austin van to the archetypal village characters, you’d think it might be hard for the international eye. Yet the film transcends boundaries on so many levels, with children and adults alike enjoying the multi-layered puns.

A cracking good film. If I’m allowed to steal a phrase from the main character.
